POSTOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HIP ARTHROPLASTY

  • Thanks to optimized rehabilitation protocols and innovative surgical techniques, day surgery or “ambulatory surgery” is possible and even desirable for healthy patients.
  • With an optimized pain management protocol, our patients are encouraged to stand up with the help of a physiotherapist just a few hours after the operation. Early mobilization promotes optimal recovery and helps restore your mobility.
  • During the first few weeks, movement is assisted with a walker or a cane to ensure stability.
  • Thanks to the use of a waterproof acrylic dressing, you can shower as soon as you get home (with help to avoid a fall). However, the wound must not be submerged in a bath or hot tub until it has fully healed.
  • Driving is possible 2 – 4 weeks after the operation if :
    • You are no longer taking narcotics that could affect your alertness
    • You can brake suddenly and painlessly in emergency situations.
    • You have short distances to cover.
  • Most patients can gradually return to work after 2 to 3 months. Some individuals with flexible, sedentary jobs may return after just a few weeks, while those with physically demanding work often need to wait 3 to 6 months to safely resume their duties.
